Time Out says

Tequila takes the limelight at this buzzy North Sydney bar with zesty cocktails and punchy Mexican bites

Four Hundred has a number of playful personalities and speeds at which she functions – exactly 400, if you missed the memo. This cheeky tequila bar has surfed the Mexican wave to North Sydney with its lip-smacking tacos, punchy Margaritas and Tulum-inspired interiors.

The Aztec name is a nod to Mayahuel, the Goddess of Agave, and her 400 tipsy rabbits. Legend has it that these mischievous bunnies loved to let their ears down, drink pulque (the first form of tequila) and unleash their 400 distinct drinking personalities. You’ll find a tequila-based tipple to match every single one at Four Hundred – and we’re talking so much more than your standard shot with lime and salt.

Raise a glass to the goddess with Four Hundred’s signature sour-style Mayahuel cocktail featuring Sesión blanco tequila, mezcal, Aperol, passionfruit, lemon, agave and egg white. Clock off work and be transported to the seaside of Tulum with the Pimiento Spritz starring Sesión blanco, pineapple, green pepper, lemon myrtle, prosecco and soda. Or get a little mischievous with a straight-up shot of premium mezcal including the 400 16 Conejos Espadín which tastes like campfire, and the Bozal Cenizo with hints of orange and dark chocolate.

Executive chef Brad Sloane (Greenwood Hotel, Buena Hotel, Verandah Bar, Cabana Bar) injects fun and flavour into Four Hundred’s bold Mexican menu with creative takes on Peruvian, Spanish, Argentine and Cuban cuisines. Lunchtime meets its match with Baja prawn rolls, mojo Cubana tortas (sandwiches), and smoked beef cheek quesadillas. There’s also Pescado and Papas, which is a playful take on fish and chips with tempura snapper, jalapeño slaw, fries and cactus tartare.

If you’re headed in for a boozy sunset session, then load the table with hand-held bites including roast pork belly tacos, salmon crudo tostadas, and calamari frito. It will almost feel like you’re dining on the Mexican coastline thanks to the bar's interiors, which are decked out with deep-coloured terracotta, natural oak timbers and soothing shades of blue.

With a taco in one hand and a Margarita in the other, you’ll have no problems letting your hair down and finding your inner party animal at Four Hundred.
