The new Penrith Stadium just reached a major construction milestone – it's on track to open in 2027

Way back in November 2024, the plan for Penrith Stadium’s $309 million upgrade was officially approved – following consultation with more than 3,000 fans, families and community members. Now, Penrith Stadium is officially “reaching new heights” – and if you’ve driven past the site lately, you’ll know it’s not just a figure of speech. With construction now well underway, the western grandstand has topped out, marking a major construction milestone and giving locals their first real glimpse of the venue’s final form. The team has confirmed that the new venue is on track for kick-off in time for the 2027 NRL season – here’s everything we know so far.
According to the NSW Government, more than 1,100 workers have been busy bringing the new stadium to life, turning it into a genuine hub of activity (and jobs) for the region. And now that the grandstands are in place, the scale of what’s coming is finally starting to land. Expect steep, modern seating designed for sharper sightlines – meaning you’ll be closer to the action, no matter where you’re sitting. Don’t worry, though: the much-loved grassy hills aren’t going anywhere, continuing to bookend the stadium and keep that classic Penrith atmosphere intact.
Inside the western grandstand, things are getting a serious upgrade. According to the team, we should expect state-of-the-art media and broadcast facilities, slick new changerooms designed for both men’s and women’s matches, and recovery pools for some post-game zen. There’ll also be corporate suites and flexible event spaces, alongside expanded kitchens, more food and drink options, and a major boost in toilet facilities.
According to the NSW Government, it’s shaping up to be far more than just a footy ground. The new Penrith Stadium is being positioned as a full-scale entertainment destination for Western Sydney – the kind of place that can host everything from blockbuster matches to major events year-round.
The venue is set to open in 2027 – you can keep tabs on progress over here.
