From slow-cooked birria tacos to banging chicken gyros and a giant crème brûlée, here’s what not to miss at the flame-fuelled street market

Vivid Sydney is finally here – and this year, the flame-fuelled street food market, Vivid Fire Kitchen, has a new home at Stargazer Lawn, Barangaroo. Open every night from 6-11pm, the fire-hot hub features everything from market stalls to open-fire cooking demos, delicious tastings, live music, themed nights and more. And there’s cold beer. Here are the best things I ate at Sydney’s Vivid Fire Kitchen 2026.
It’s Vivid Sydney’s flame-fuelled street food market – a mix of open-fire cooking, market stalls, tastings, live music and themed nights, all running throughout the festival.
This year it’s at Stargazer Lawn in Barangaroo. Previously, it was held along The Goods Line in Ultimo. I reckon its new home is a winner.
It’s a 15-minute walk from Wynyard to Stargazer Lawn. Or jump on the Metro and get off at Barangaroo Metro Station – from there it’s a short walk up the hill or via the stairs to Vivid Fire Kitchen.
So glad you asked!
These tacos were one of the best things I ate. Slow-cooked beef brisket with an incredible savoury flavour, well seasoned and loaded with melted cheese. The consommé could have had more depth, but the tacos were delicious.
Olympic Meats, winner of Time Out Sydney’s award for Best Affordable Eat 2026, is at this year’s Fire Kitchen and I was pumped to see them there. The chicken gyros feature their pillowy, hand-rolled sourdough pita, succulent chicken, fresh salad and main-character-energy sauces. My favourite thing I ate. Go early!
These guys have a proper wood-fired pizza oven in their stall. Their mortadella sandwich was brilliant – I loved the sweet chilli kick from the hot honey, and burrata and pesto on a sandwich is always a good time. A big yes from me.
A great option if you want to share and have a meat party. They also make caramelised pineapple lollipops flavoured with cinnamon butterscotch. The meat platter comes with chorizo, chicken and beef, all doused in a spiced tangy sauce, served with fresh salad and a soft bun.
We’re big fans of Enmore Road’s Firepop at Time Out. And while their skewers aren’t cheap, you’re paying for quality and flavour. Take the butter cube, for example, which is full-blood Wagyu with a marble score of 9. It gets its name for a reason.
Two succulent grilled chicken skewers covered in a sweet-sticky soy glaze from these Filipino legends. They’re fun to eat – what’s not to love? They’re also serving a refreshing ube and calamansi iced tea.
Yes, this is seriously a giant crème brûlée with a crisp caramelised top and silky-smooth custard centre.
Have you tried knafeh before? It’s a traditional Middle Eastern dessert featuring crisp shredded pastry layered with melted cheese and fragrant sweet syrup. It’s a delight – and you’ll go home dreaming of “yummy yummy”.
