Time Out says
This immersive drag dinner extravaganza brings show tunes to your table
The immersive dining and drag experience that took Oxford Street by storm after the city locked down is back to kick off the new year with showtune stylings. Sydney drag superqueens Charisma Belle, Carmen Geddit and Hannah Conda will have stars in their eyes as they take you on a journey through some of the biggest moments in musical theatre and Broadway history.
While the idea of getting back on the dancefloor is unpromising territory in Sydney for now, the experience that transformed a night club into a glittering dinner theatre venue is digging in its stiletto heels. With more than two decades’ skin in the drag game, Charisma says that being able to put on a show like Premiere is a dream come true.
“There’s a whole group of more mature people, people who have jobs and can’t be out until three or four o’clock in the morning [who] are now getting back into drag and experiencing it in a much more comfortable way,” the matriarch said when talking to us about the spookily delightful Halloween edition, Scream Queens. “I’m loving it as well. I like the audience watching from their tables, no one’s trying to get up on the stage and dance with you, which often happens in the clubs, and I’m not performing to a thousand mobile phones. It’s been very exciting to see people smiling and laughing with you.”
The first, Hollywood-inspired version of Premiere was padded and tucked with a mixed bag of numbers that every drag queen worth her salt dreams of performing, and we’re sure this traipse down Broadway lane (no, not the one next to Chippendale) will back plenty more gems. Belloccio is dishing up a summery Greek and Italian influenced three-course menu (vegan and vegetarian options on request). The Dine Package includes dinner, the show and a welcome drink for $89. If you really want your cup to runneth over, the Absolut Premiere Package gets you all that plus bottomless bubbles, wine and house cocktails for $149.
Premiere: Broadway is on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night until March 5. Book in here. Hop to it, as these shows are known to sell out darling!
