Whether or not you’ve heard of Sydney’s Hollywood Quarter, you’ve definitely heard of some of the famed venues housed within this vibrant pocket of the city. HQ is the new name for  the bountiful area nestled between Central, Surry Hills and Darlinghurst. This micro-precinct in the Surry foothills may only span a few streets, but it packs a punch with an incredible concentration of noteworthy food, culture and entertainment hotspots.

It’s common knowledge that Vivid Sydney is about to literally light up the city once more with a bigger-than-ever program of lights, music, food and ideas. What you might not know is that for the first time, the venues of the Hollywood Quarter are joining in on the fun in their own distinctive ways.

From May 26 until June 17, Hollywood Quarter will be celebrating Vivid with a roster of curated installations, performances and events. The best part? Many of the activities on offer won't cost you a thing.

Head to the first lady of Sydney pubs and namesake of the precinct for free live music. That’s right: the beloved Hotel Hollywood is serving up tasty tunes Wednesday-Friday during Vivid. The words of multidisciplinary Indigenous poet Jazz Money will also be projected across the hotel’s facade each night.

Paramount House Hotel will host a sculpture and light installation from Aeden Lee, while the Ace Hotel will host a showcase of Australia’s thriving digital art scene projected onto the wall of Foy Lane. Once you’ve finished treating your eyes head to Kiln, the Ace’s eclectic rooftop restaurant to treat your tastebuds. LA chef Jeremy Fox will be taking over the kitchen and they’ll be staying open late during Vivid.

If you’re after a nourishing pre-Vivid meal to give you some energy, the Rover has put together a custom menu to keep you going all night. The seafood-driven bistro above the Rover bar is just a few minutes’ walk from Central, where you can pick up the Vivid trail. If sporty celebrations and fried chicken are more your vibe, grab dinner at Butter and take in their window display celebrating the NBA playoffs.

The action doesn’t stop on Sundays either. Casual Italian diner Alberto’s Lounge will be ramping up their Tempo della Musica experience with food and drink pairings to match the music across three weeks.

Make the easy jaunt across Hyde Park from the CBD to uncover a whole new way to make the most of Vivid.
