New cinema opens in Causeway Bay with $38 tickets

It was sad news when Causeway Bay’s MCL JP Cinema closed back in April after 18 years in operation. At the time, an MCL spokesman stated that although the company they was happy with ticket sales it had decided not to renew its contract on the venue after evaluating rental costs and other factors.

Clearly, Cinema City dont share the same concerns as they’ve reopened the space several months later as Cinema City JP, adding to their existing locations in Mong Kok and Chai Wan. The cinema opened last night and although there are only two screens operating, theyre fairly sizeable auditoriums, capable of seating 380 and 278 customers. Both screens feature Barco 4K laser projectors for excellent picture quality.

Although not as exciting as Yuen Long’s new cinema that opened last month, the renovated space does offer some of the cheapest cinema tickets anywhere in Hong Kong. On weekdays before noon, for 2D showings, the price of tickets is a staggeringly low $38. Standard ticket prices are $100 for 2D films and $115 for 3D offerings. So, now all we need to do is come up with an excuse not to get to work until after lunch...
