Never change, Japan. In news that really should come as no surprise to anybody, a 40-something, animal print-clad Japanese comedian slash DJ has dropped what is touted to become the next Gangnam Style. While the production values of either the MV or the song itself never quite hit the dizzying heights of that modern-day Korean classic, Piko-Taro's completely ridiculous Pen Pineapple Apple Pen has already been racking up some serious numbers on YouTube in just over a week of release. Never mind the fact that the lyrics make even less sense than Gangnam Style, don't even worry about the fact that our superstar-in-waiting is wearing clashing prints and appears to have stumbled into an exploding vat of English mustard, this will get stuck in your head.
Better get used to hearing a lot more of this over the next few months. And don't be surprised if you spot some PPAP merch next time you hit up the Ladies' Market, either.
