Have you got what it takes to eat the OMG burger in 40 minutes?

In what has become an annual Rugby Sevens tradition, Mirage is once again inviting hungry Hongkongers to explore the limits of their appetites with the OMG burger challenge.

The OMG burger elicits precisely the reaction that its name suggests. It’s a party-sized 800g prime beef patty topped with four fried eggs, 12 strips of bacon, one whole caramelised onion and layers of tomatoes and pickles. In other words, it’s pretty much six hamburgers in one. If the burger isn’t enough, throw in a seemingly bottomless basket of fries and you have a challenge that few will be able to complete.

In fact, only one person has completed this burger challenge. And he’s done it three times so far: once in 2017 and twice (!) last year. Why anyone would want to punish their digestive system twice in one year is beyond us. But if you can match him and down the burger and fries in 40 minutes or less, you eat for free. Otherwise, you’re out $666. Wonder how messy this all gets? Check out this extremely appetising video.

But if you have a taste for food rather than suffering, we suggest trying one of the six other delicious burgers Mirage has put on the menu. Those include the Plain Ole Burger ($198), which is made of Australian Stockyard beef, topped with cheddar cheese and finished with aioli sauce. There are also non-beefy options like the gluten-free, plant-based Impossible Burger ($258) and the Aqua Burger ($218). That one swaps a crispy-yet-tender fried seabass fillet for beef and is covered in tangy caper mayo.

You can only attempt the OMG burger challenge until April 30, and advanced booking is required. Contact the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel for more information about how you can try to immortalise yourself by consuming a hamburger the size and weight of a large discus.
