Get ready for a ‘Hot Spud Summer’

Who doesn’t love a potato? Especially a cute, plump, squishy one that comes in all kinds of silly, adorable outfits. Noodoll, the London-born brand that captured the internet’s heart with its Ricespud plushies, is bringing us a ‘Hot Spud Summer’ this season, launching its latest capsule collection in Hong Kong just in time for beach weather.
Dreamed up in 2009 by designer Yiying Wang, the brand draws inspiration from Wang’s childhood memories of rice and noodles. What began as a quirky creative project has since snowballed into a global craze, particularly across Asia where the signature Ricespud has achieved quite a cult following.
Now, the chubby icon is getting a tropical upgrade with its new capsule collection featuring an entire crew of summer-loving spuds. For those who prefer a slow, sunny getaway, Vacay Grandpa in a dapper Hawaiian shirt and Vacay Grandma sporting a pair of glamorous yellow shades are the sweetest holiday couple this summer. Another inseparable duo is Hot Potato, who comes accessorised with a stylish baseball cap and a chocolate ice cream cone, and Pinky, who wears a bright pink bow while clutching a strawberry scoop.
If your summer style leans a bit more chaotic, Splashy comes equipped with tiny swimming goggles and a swim ring ready to cannonball into the water, while Aloha channels tropical sunset energy in a full ti leaf skirt and floral lei crown. Those ready for ocean adventures will love Captain Spudhook, Pirate Ricespud, and the stripe-wearing Sailor Ricespud. Finally, you can dive deep under the sea to encounter the soft, magical Mermaid Ricespud, a surprisingly non-threatening Sharkie Ricespud, and a snappy crustacean pairing of Crabby and Lobstache Ricespud, complete with claws, a moustache, and a stylish corduroy lobster suit.
The ‘Hot Spud Summer’ collection officially lands in Hong Kong on May 29. You’ll be able to track down your favourite beach companion across the city, including all Log-On branches, designated Eslite Bookstore locations (Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, Tai Koo, Tuen Mun, Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong Station), and selected retailers inside Terminal 1 of Hong Kong International Airport including Hubiz, Kaboom, Flying Hong Kong, and Relay.
