Salted egg gai daan zai is now a thing

Sham Shui Po is well-known as a food paradise. The newest addition to its ranks, Goodest Snack, is offering a new kind of gai daan zai that’s been attracting big crowds – salted egg gai daan zai.

Given the popularity of salted egg fish skins, we’re surprised that it’s taken this long for the flavour to be transferred to egg waffles. Despite the food stall’s wonky English name – the ‘goodest’ of them all – they serve up a wide range of top quality eggettes. Flavours include the likes of original, cheese, dark chocolate, banana, luncheon meat and meat floss. And all at seriously affordable prices starting from $10. You can even double up with two ingredients for only 20 bucks.

The recommended combo is salted egg and luncheon meat – the sweetness of the eggettes balancing out the other two ingredients. Made to order, we can attest that the texture of the eggettes is extra crispy. Aside from desserts, Goodest Snack also dishes out classic local nibbles like handmade beef balls ($12 for three) and squid ($8).

They’re the ideal pick-me-up for any post-CNY blues.
