After a successful two-day tasting earlier this year, Wagyumafia is set to return to our shores, this time for the long run. Best known for its wagyu cutlet sandwich – touted as the world’s most expensive sando with a price tag of more than $1,000 in Japan – this meaty import is opening a permanent store in Wan Chai this autumn.

The Hong Kong location will be an 18-seat counter-style eatery that offers tasting menus built around premium Japanese beef. It’s not due to open until late September or October but if you want a taste of what’s in store, Wagyumafia’s chef, Hisato Hamada, is in town tonight for a one-night pop-up at Elephant Grounds in Causeway Bay. Hamada will serve his pricey beef sandwich for starting from 6pm. Get there early if you want to try it before everyone else does.
