Our annual Time Out Recommends campaign’s return is just around the corner, and we’ve joined forces with HSBC Reward+ to offer limited-time freebies via the Reward+ app at selected venues in Hong Kong. Given our city’s notoriously blistering hot summer, we’ve teamed up with homegrown bubble tea brand Silk. to showcase their uniquely Hong Kong-inspired hand-shaken beverages and dive deep into the roots of their modern bubble tea concept.

Co-founded in September 2022 by Adrian N. and Tim T., the bubble tea brand prides itself on promoting the rich cultural history of Hong Kong-style milk tea to younger generations, while infusing their drinks with a modern twist.

Currently, Silk.’s menu features 16 creative beverages that span from crushable teas paired with fresh fruits to dessert-like concoctions piled high with toppings. At the heart of the menu is the brand’s signature Smooth King. Brewed with traditional techniques, this drink features a rich milk tea base that uses a 50-year-old family recipe developed by Adrian’s aunt. Paired with brown sugar boba, crisp honeycomb made in-store, and a decadent cheese cloud topping, this masterpiece serves as the ultimate reflection of Silk.'s identity – deeply rooted in traditional Hong Kong tea culture, yet completely reimagined for the modern sweet tooth.

Beyond its core menu, Silk. keeps things exciting by offering location-exclusive items. For example, the brand’s Times Square location previously collaborated with traditional food shop Min Fong Hong to create a bespoke pistachio mochi topped with honeycomb bits.

Silk.’s 'old meets new' extends to its sleek, minimalist stores, where tailored decor like antique displays and retro decals pays homage to Hong Kong’s past. A standout example is its Peak Tower location, where they teamed up with local manufacturer Red A to create a pawn shop-inspired storefront complete with the brand’s iconic red lamps and also world-exclusive black lamps made specially for Silk.

Since launching, Silk. has expanded to 12 branches across Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, and cemented its status as one of the city’s most popular bubble tea brands. In addition to its brick-and-mortar stores, Silk.’s previous pop-ups at major cultural events, such as Hong Kong’s ComplexCon and American music label 88Rising’s Head in the Clouds Music & Arts Festival, consistently bring its drinks closer to the local foodie crowd.
