All hail the rotisserie chicken at this newly opened eatery. El Grande Holdings (Grappas, Inn Side Out) has always been known for its roasted chicken, so it is only fitting the group decided to open up a shop specialising in the bird.
And boy, is that bird good here. Whether slicked with one of the four flavours of dressing the shop offers, from the classic lemon herb to tangy chipotle (our favourite), or grilled Cajun style and tossed between two buns ($58), or even the wings, doused with spicy barbecue sauce, it’s clear the poultry has done its time in the roast. The meat gingerly falls off the bone and oozes with savoury juice and fragrant herb scents. Texas offers a quarter of a chicken for $45 à la carte, or you can pair it with sides, which include American favourites such as potato salad, coleslaw, rice pilaf, ranch beans and more (all $25 each à la carte). The taste is all there but sides some seem to have sat out a bit too long. The corn ($20 per half piece) for example, is dry and withered near dinner time. Texas could also do with paying more attention to the ribs ($130 per half slab). Decently sauced, the meat is over marinated and a tad tough.
Wash all this down with some of the fine, mainly American, craft beer Texas carries. A note though: Texas Chicken & Ribs can only seat around 15 people so it may be better to get a takeaway. Enjoying that chicken in the comfort of your own home? What can be better? Janice Jann
