AFTEC, an award-winning NGO, is set to conclude its ambitious ‘Three Kingdoms Trilogy’ this March with Taming the Dragon. Adapted and directed by Artistic Director Dr Vicki Ooi, recipient of the Hong Kong Drama Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award, the production reimagines the classic Romance of the Three Kingdoms through AFTEC’s signature Learning Theatre™ approach.
The story follows Liu Bei’s final days and Zhuge Liang’s last northern expedition, where he faces his lifelong rival Sima Yi in a battle of wits and destiny. Legendary episodes including ‘Entrusting the Orphan at Baidi City’, the ‘Empty Fort Strategy’ and the ‘Later Memorial to the Throne’ unfold on stage, exploring themes of loyalty, trust, and leadership.
This finale blends timeless storytelling with imaginative stagecraft. Multi‑angle projections and video images recreate the scale of ancient battles, while iconic weapons such as the Oxen Barrows and Zhuge Repeating Crossbow are brought vividly to life. With live percussion and bilingual surtitles, the show promises a rich sensory experience that is both educational and entertaining.
