Be transported to ancient Greece in this tragi-comedy stage production. Prometheus, a Titan deity, helps Zeus become supreme ruler of the Olympian gods but Zeus is enraged when Prometheus steals fire to give to the people on Earth, propelling them towards civilisation. In retribution, Zeus chains him to a cliff where an eagle pecks out his liver each day. Still, Prometheus refuses to reveal who will overthrow Zeus. Cue an intense tale of godly proportions. Li Liuyi, one of China’s most influential theatre directors, calls on Chinese philosophy and traditional opera to redraw this tragedy as a comedy. Prometheus Bound offers a satirical presentation of ‘gods’ and an ironic look at the making of ‘hero’.
In Putonghua with Chinese and English surtitles.
