Reveries of the Red Chamber – based on Cao Xueqin's Chinese literary masterpiece Dream of the Red Chamber – is being performed by the Hong Kong Dance Company on August 5 to 7 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Studio Theatre. The story of a stone that is outcast from Heaven and betrayed on Earth is brought to life in dance by Experimental Dance Theatre’s three different interpretations of the story, each directed by a different artistic visionary: dance doyenne Helen Lai (While the Dream Unfolds), Hong Kong Dance Company Artistic Director Yang Yuntao (Blanc) and theatre artist extraordinaire Hoyingfung (The Enigma of a Stone). The dance collides with literature where words take on a human form to portray a riches-to-rags story through poetic and emotive movements. hkdance.com
