Alien

Part of the Hong Kong Arts Centre’s The Biomechanical Dreamscapes of HR Giger series, Alien’s rudimentary plot – crew of commercial spacecraft are menaced by stowaway monster – is elevated by the offhand organic/Freudian resonances of the film’s aesthetic and the brilliantly manipulative editing and pacing of its above-average shock quota. A sci-fi classic.

The extended version of the sequel, Aliens, is showing as well. Catch both back-to-back on Sunday 29 October for an awesome double bill.
