In 1976, British wine merchant Steven Spurrier held a blind tasting in Paris, leaving the wine industry shocked when American wines such as California Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon scored higher than prestigious French wines. The defining moment continues to inspire confidence in California’s wine industry, and an exclusive lunch was held on May 29 at the American Club Hong Kong to commemorate the historic event.

Inspired by the pioneering spirit behind the 1976 blind tasting that helped put California wines on the world stage, this year’s California Wine Month celebrates “boldness”, serving as a reminder of what defines California winemaking today: innovation, diversity, and a commitment to sustainable winemaking practices.
