Tales of The Macallan Volume II - A Journey to Mastery

  • Food and drink events

This March, The Macallan presents a pop-up exhibition at Art Basel Hong Kong, unveiling the brand’s latest Tales of The Macallan series in honour of its 200th anniversary. The newest release in this special series is a limited-edition single malt whisky paying homage to its founder, Alexander Reid, commemorating his journey from teacher to whisky master that culminated in the establishment of The Macallan distillery in 1824.  During the pop-up event, visitors can view Tales of The Macallan Volume II presented in an artisan Lalique crystal decanter adorned with illustrations, crafted by renowned British illustrator Andrew Davidson. Each bottle is housed in an exquisite 800-page leather-bound almanack depicting imagery from Reid’s era. This exclusive series comprises only 344 decanters, with just 10 available in Hong Kong.As part of their collaboration for the brand’s 200th anniversary, The Macallan’s Art Basel pop-up showcases Davidson’s illustrations in an immersive setting. Guests can explore and discover more about Reid’s transformation from teacher to farmer to distiller. 'Tales of The Macallan Volume II - A Journey to Mastery' is accessible to all Art Basel attendees until March 30, from 12 pm to 8 pm.

Art Basel Hong Kong 2024

  • Fairs

Art Basel is coming back swinging for their 2024 edition, having confirmed a list of 242 leading international galleries that will be participating. This brings the art event back to a pre-pandemic scale, with 65 more exhibitors joining the fair as compared to this year. Galleries from 40 countries and territories across Asia, Europe, North and Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa will be participating, so expect to see quality artworks spanning various mediums and markets. 25 of the participating galleries in 2024 will be making their Art Basel debut, including Fitzpatrick Gallery from Paris; Almeida e Dale Galeria de Arte from São Paulo; Waitingroom from Tokyo; PTT Space and Each Modern from Taipei; Public Gallery and Alison Jacques from London; Mangrove Gallery from Shenzhen; and YveYang, Bortolami, and Chapter NY from New York. The 2024 edition will also see 68 established galleries returning to the Asia fair after a hiatus away. As expected of Art Basel Hong Kong, there will be a strong focus on artistic production from the Asia-Pacific region – more than half of all exhibitors operate from the continent. Whether it be historical rediscoveries, works from 20th-century masters, or pieces by exciting, emerging artists, there will undoubtedly be something to catch your eye.

Conversations with Nature with Tomoko Sauvage

Ruinart's tradition of blending art and nature thrives with Carte Blanche 2024, featuring six globally diverse artists: Andrea Bowers, Marcus Coates, Thijs Biersteker, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Henrique Oliveira, and Tomoko Sauvage. This collective dialogue aims to spark vital discussions on nature's significance, touching on environmental consciousness and human-nature relationships.  Experience a preview of Carte Blanche 2024 at Art Basel Hong Kong from March 28 to 30. Celebrated Japanese electro-acoustic sound artist Tomoko, known for work exhibited in leading cultural institutions such as Palais de Tokyo and the Barbican Centre, will present her piece Into The Serpentine Bells at Ruinart's Conversations with Nature exhibit. This sensorial kinetic installation delves into her creative repertoire, forging sonic connections among historic water-based timekeeping tools and underwater bells. Tomoko's artistry explores water's material essence within glass sculptures, yielding unique musical instruments like the innovative Storm Glass Harp. Alongside this, Buloklok, a musical timepiece, comprises submerged blown glass sculptures releasing air bubbles, functioning as a natural rhythm keeper for polyrhythmic melodies orchestrated by water and air.  During the pop-up, guests can enjoy servings of R de Ruinart Brut ($190/glass; $950/bottle), Ruinart Rosé ($190/glass; $950/bottle), and Ruinart Blanc de Blancs ($240/glass; $1200/bottle).
