Burgers come in all shapes and sizes. Whether you prefer a traditional juicy grilled beef burger, a deep-fried chicken patty, or even a vegetarian tempeh and chickpea patty, there's no doubt burgers are one of KLites' favourite meals. Here are some of our favourite places to get a delicious burger done right.

The cosy space that houses Buns Burger Bar is warm and welcoming, inviting you in to try their delicious burgers and addictive sides. The beef patties are made from free-range grass fed Australian beef, and are assembled together with choice ingredients and a fluffy bun (typically topped with sesame seeds). The Beast is a good option – double beef patties, grilled beef bacon, fried onion strings, and lots of cheese and barbecue sauce nestled between warm buns. Get the sweet potato fries too.

As one of the city’s pioneer gourmet burger diners, The Daily Grind dedicate themselves to serving burgers made from 100 percent fresh ingredients with homemade sauces. The selection of beef burgers is varied and interesting, and there are also chicken, lamb and fish options alongside vegetarian mushroom or tempeh and chickpea patties. What caught our attention was the hefty Camembert Burger – a deep-fried Camembert sitting on two beef patties topped with a cranberry beef bacon jam. The cheese and tangy cranberry jam went well with the juicy patties – so well it made us momentarily forget we were eating almost a whole block of cheese!

They may not be ‘gourmet’ in the typical sense of the word, but the burgers at KGB are tempting handcrafted options made with halal-certified ingredients and doused in a variety of sauces and seasonings. The extensive menu includes beef and chicken burgers either grilled, crust-seared or even fried, and a vegetarian section with mushroom or bean patties. For something a little decadent, go for the Truffle’d Swiss – infused with hints of truffle, the burger is made with juicy grilled beef, sautéed portobello and Swiss cheese topped with a herbed ranch sauce that brings all the elements together nicely.

They have come a long way since first opening in 2012, winning the hearts of KLites with a simple objective of serving quality food without any shortcuts. myBurgerLab’s experimental nature has kept things interesting with an evolving menu and the occasional new creation. The Beautiful Mess is as gorgeous as ever – sunny-side up, fried portobello and their delicious beef patty smothered in sauces and sandwiched between fluffy charcoal buns, this is a burger to get your hands dirty with.

This upstairs lot in the bustling SS15 can get crowded with hungry students and office workers, but there’s always just enough space to manoeuvre around. On the menu are pork, beef and chicken burgers, as well as some vegetarian options (with patties made with mixed beans). The Badass Cowboy is a beef burger with cheese, onion rings, pickles and barbecue sauce – a combination that went well together and made a satisfying meal.
