Yes, it’s grey outside right now, your umbrella is on standby and it’s started to get dark at half nine again, but don’t let that get you down – summer’s not over yet! After a dull and dreary end to July, the sun is expected to make a stunning comeback later in this month.

The next few days are set to remain unsettled, wet and cloudy, but forecasters reckon London will get to enjoy another heatwave mid-August. A weather map from WXCharts, which uses MetDesk data, shows a heatwave hitting London from Sunday, August 10, starting at 29C and going all the way up to 31C on August 11 and 32C on August 14.

While it’s too early to know exact temperatures for mid-August, the Met Office does agree that the mercury will rise over the next couple of weeks. It forecasts 27C degrees for the capital on Thursday, August 7 and says that ‘as we move towards mid-month, there is an increased chance of high pressure becoming more dominant, leading to drier, warmer and more settled conditions becoming more widespread’.

In its long-range forecast for August 15 to August 29 the Met Office adds that ‘above average temperatures overall seem most likely, with the potential for hot spells to develop, especially in the east and south, these more probable further into August’.
