Mulled wine, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, pigs in blankets, getting ‘the fear’ after your office Christmas party... Kew’s annual festive lights trail is almost as much of a Christmas tradition.

Christmas at Kew opened last night, with a brand new after-dark light installation. The enormous botanical garden will be all a-glow until January 5 2019.

This year there’s over 1 million lights dotted around the gardens, all twinkling to the sound of festive tunes.

A huge glowing Christmas wreath welcomes you to the start of the trail, which also includes a field of light made up of 10,000 dancing bulbs.

Look out for hundreds of technicolour origami boats floating on the lake, oversized glitter balls, a tunnel of bright fairy lights and a laser garden.
