Heads up! We’re working hard to be accurate – but these are unusual times, so please always check before heading out.
Having a January moan? Then consider Rukhsana. Rukhsana’s husband threw acid in her face. Then her sister-in-law covered her with gasoline and set her alight. And yet Rukhsana still has to live with her husband’s family – she simply has nowhere else to go. It’s a mind-blowingly miserable story and, in Pakistan, such incidents don’t seem that uncommon. But happily, there’s another man in Rukhsana’s life. We last met Dr Mohammad Jawad as he reconstructed the face of British acid attack victim Katie Piper. This remarkable film documents time he spent in Pakistan tending to the sadly numerous victims of this horrible crime. More important still is the work of politician Marvi Memon and attorney Sarkar Abbass, who campaign for legislation enshrining proper punishments and deterrents. Tough to watch, but very worthwhile.
