Heads up! We’re working hard to be accurate – but these are unusual times, so please always check before heading out.
There have already been plenty of documentaries about Bonneville – the Utah salt flats where mentally unsound people with big engines go to defy the laws of physics, and where more land-speed records are set than anywhere else on Earth. However, few have placed as much emphasis on the ordinary people whose sole dream is a place in the Bonneville record books. Here, we follow six different UK-based man-and-machine teams, each with their unique motivations and dreams of conquering the eerily stark and foreboding wasteland. As you’d expect, it’s suffocatingly macho stuff. But, try as you might, you can’t help but admire the enthusiasm of a man willing to neglect professional and familial duties to spend his every waking hour turning a common road vehicle into something of world-beating, cheek-wobbling greatness – all while wearing an obscene T-shirt.
