Wander through the arts precinct and experience an augmented reality art gallery featuring 22 artworks

One of Australia’s largest AR (augmented reality) exhibitions has launched in Melbourne – and it's totally free.

Melbourne’s Fed Square, ACMI, the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) and the Koorie Heritage Trust (KHT) have collaborated with London-based digital art company, Acute Art, to deliver an AR art experience like no other, launching Melbourne firmly into the world of digital art.

The AR Trail showcases 22 digital artworks by some of the world’s leading contemporary artists, including KAWS, Olafur Eliasson, Cao Fei, Koo Jeong A, Nina Chanel Abney and David Shrigley, as well as new commissions by local artists, including Reko Rennie, Ron Mueck and Patricia Piccinini. The innovative art experience leads art-lovers through the city's arts precinct as they view each virtual artwork through a dedicated app.

The AR Trail is live until September 30. Simply download the free Acute Art app via the Apple Store and Google Play, or check out more at the Fed Square website.

Want more art? Check out this cool new program of over over 40 large-scale artworks scattered across the city.
