Founded in London in 2010, The Other Art Fair successfully hopped the pond to Sydney before arriving in Melbourne in 2017. After a successful inaugural fair, the Melbourne event is back this August with an exciting line-up of 100 undiscovered artists chosen by a powerhouse committee of tastemakers.
This time around The Other Art Fair is happening during Melbourne Art Week and is offering much more than just a stellar selection of art for sale. Over the event's four days (Thursday August 2 to Sunday August 5) you can take part in a program of tours, panel talks, performances, immersive installations, workshops and free kids activities at the Facility (rear 2 Chelmsford Street) in Kensington. Food and drink will be available, with tunes playing courtesy of Musicland.
The Other Art Fair will even let you become a work of art, with artist Frances Cannon creating free portraits in her delicate linear style. This year's guest artist Dina Broadhurst, whose photography and collage works explore themes like sexuality, femininity and fantasy, has also created a limited edition poster to be sold exclusively at the fair.
Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets for The Other Art Fair online, with only a limited number available for purchase at the door (and tickets for opening night, Thursday August 2, are only available online).
