Knock a Sunday session for six in the back streets of Windsor
This bright old pub on a tree-lined corner of Windsor is abuzz on game day, both inside the massive main bar and in the equally huge beer garden. All that room and plenty of charming staff mean the beer’s in hand before the next bounce with no need to elbow in. TVs all over mean you’ll never miss a play and you can feel the excitement at the crack of rawhide on willow.
But this is not the realm of drooling fanatics screaming obscenities at innocent screens. The crowd is dominated by the bold and the beautiful, ranging from silver foxes to girls on the bubbles and tatted-up trendies. Around the side, there’s a tiny punters’ bar where the crowd’s a bit older and not so pretty. Here you’ll find portraits of 1970s tennis stars, the local footy ladder and of course the TAB. As the old boys urge the dogs around, the kids out front grab another jug, and all is right behind the picket fences of the College Lawn Hotel.
