Located just across the street from Moonee Ponds station is Holmes Hall, a 500-square-metre beer hall that occupies the space formerly occupied by a once-bustling supermarket. The space was acquired by the team behind the Ascot Lot, who began renovating this site during lockdown in 2020 with aspirations of creating Moonee Ponds's largest entertainment precinct.
They brought the inter-war era structure of the building back to its skeleton to show off the beautiful ornate brickwork, original concrete flooring and raw details. The aisles of shelving and refrigerators have been replaced with cosy velvet booths and banquette seating with warm timber finishes.
On the side of the building is a mural of premier Dan Andrews that instructs you to get on the beers, so step inside and choose from more than two dozen beer taps. The drinks menu also features a vast range of local boutique wines, spirits and cocktails.
When your stomach starts to rumble, head chef James Curby has put together a menu that features share plates, pub classics and heaps of plant-based options.
