Ready to be inspired? TEDxMelbourne’s 2017 event ‘Rebels, Revolutionaries and US’ has just dropped its first round of speakers – and this year promises to be the festival’s most daring and ambitious event to date.

Former child soldier turned defence lawyer Deng Adut and businesswoman and philanthropist Susan Alberti lead the announcements today.

Adut, who was conscripted into the Sudan People’s Liberation Army at just six years old, now owns his own successful law firm and spends his free time working with disenfranchised youth and refugees. He was also recently named NSW Australian of the Year for 2017. Alberti was the former Vice President of the Western Bulldogs Football Club and the inaugural ambassador for the AFL Women’s League. She’s also had a hand in fundraising for juvenile diabetes, founding the Melbourne and Sydney annual Walk for the Cure fundraiser which has raised more than $30 million towards diabetes research.

While it’s just a little teaser of the full line-up, TEDxMelbourne will be releasing more speakers in the coming weeks, so save the date and stay tuned.

TEDxMelbourne will take place on September 19 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. You can buy tickets now.
