Time Out says

See epic blockbusters and special double features on the giant screen at this new film festival

Some films just don’t hit the same when you’re watching at home on the small screen, minus the cinema atmosphere and surround sound – Oppenheimer, anyone? We reckon true cinematic masterpieces deserve the proper big screen treatment, which is why we were excited to learn that IMAX Melbourne is throwing a new film festival focused on films that look best on the big(gest) screen.

The inaugural Best Biggest IMAX Film Festival kicks off on January 12, with an impressive variety of famous films playing on the seven-storey screen until February 17. The Festival begins with a monumental opening night double feature consisting of Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 on Saturday, January 13.

If you’re in the mood to tick off multiple flicks in one go, you can also catch Top Gun and Top Gun Maverick as a double feature on Sunday, January 14. If you’re down for a marathon, book in to watch The Lord of the Rings Trilogy back-to-back on Saturday, February 17.

Nolan nerds rejoice, because the festival will also see Oppenheimer return to IMAX Melbourne off the back of a wildly successful initial season of 171 sold-out sessions. Rounding out the program are Tron: Legacy 3D, Avatar: Way of the Water 3D, Moonage Daydream, 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Dark Knight Trilogy.

It’s not often Melburians get the chance to revisit cult films on such a humongous screen, so visit the IMAX Melbourne website for more information, session times and tickets.
