If you haven’t heard already, the sequel to the global blockbuster Avatar is now out in cinemas, which is Pretty Huge News seeing as though the OG came out 13 years ago. Gasp! James Cameron’s Avatar remains the highest-grossing film of all time (and IMAX Melbourne’s most successful release), so it’s safe to say the stakes are pretty high for the second instalment. What’s Jake Sully and co been up to? What’s changed in the world of Pandora? Will we be able to rock the 3D glasses like it’s 2009? So many questions! So little time.
To celebrate the release of the new Avatar: The Way of Water 3D, IMAX Melbourne will be projecting scenes from the multi-million-dollar film on its exterior façade from 9pm every night this summer. The projection takeover will run daily from now until January 31, 2023, from 9pm to 2am each night, immersing passers by in the larger-than-life, colourful world of Pandora.
While James Cameron and fellow creators have been tight lipped about this next film, Time Out says the movie will pick up a decade or so later with Jake Sully, now fully Na’vi, living a family life with his partner Neytiri and their kids. And as Avatar: The Way of Water 3D has been in the making for 13 years, the film is anticipated to be as big – if not bigger – than the original. What better way to experience the film than watching it at IMAX Melbourne?
