This summer, the team behind the Shadow Electric (formerly at the Abbotsford Convent) have moved to the University Melbourne to put on a two-month entertainment festival, complete with films, live music and top-notch food and drink.
The film line-up is packed with new releases, music docos and old favourites. It won't be easy to narrow down your favourites; highlights include lauded sci fi film Arrival (Jan 6), neo-noir psychological thriller Nocturnal Animals (Jan 7 & 30), Aussie coming-of-age indie flick Girl Asleep (Jan 18) and charming musical rom com La La Land (Feb 23 & 25). Some of the hottest films of 2016 will make an appearance, including Ghostbusters (Jan 15), Café Society (Jan 12) and Ab Fab: The Movie (Jan 11). For the full program, visit the Shimmerlands website.
While you're there, make sure you take advantage of the great food and drink offerings at Shimmerlands; we're talking St Ali, Pho Nom, Pipapipo Gelateria, Shandong Mama and Trattoria Emilia, plus a bar where you can hang out and relax.
