Time Out says

The multifaceted gem of Australian cabaret is reuniting with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for one night only

Ali McGregor’s artistry defies convention and crosses genres in a way that’s as joyous as it is unexpected. Whether she’s focussing on opera, cabaret, comedy or all three at the same time, McGregor is known for nailing the brief.

Since beginning her career at Opera Australia as a principal soprano, Ali McGregor is currently a returning artistic director of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, which she fits in between regular performances with Opera Queensland and the Victorian Opera. Phew! As if that wasn’t enough, Ali has also gone on to become a regular at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival with her enduringly popular Late-Nite Variety-Nite Night.

On May 26, Ali will take to the Hamer Hall stage with the full backing of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to perform songs from her album Alchemy, as well as other music from her prolific career. This will be Ali’s third collaboration with the MSO, but her first solo show at Hamer Hall.

Ali will keep your ears guessing with an eclectic musical mix. You can expect to hear her take on songs from Soft Cell and INXS, as well as new opera works from Lorelei and The Call. Music from Ali’s Helpmann Award-winning show Yma Sumac – The Peruvian Songbird will also be on the menu.

The audience was brought to their feet by Ali’s rendition of Radiohead’s ‘Creep’ at the MSO’s Performance of a Lifetime Live concert back in 2021, so you can be sure her new show will be a night of passion and pure joy.
