Time Out says

The epic instrumental quartet will be bringing their seventh album to Australian shores in 2017

If you died your hair purple, wore a white belt with black skinny jeans and fell in love for the first time sometime between 2001 and 2008, then chances are you've got powerful emotional associations with Austin based post-rock outfit Explosions in the Sky.

The band, who also penned the soundtrack for Friday Night Lights (the movie, though many of the songs also made it onto the show), will be playing sit-down venues like the Sydney Opera House and Melbourne Recital Centre

Last time they toured, they played much smaller venues. And we're also used to seeing them on the festival circuit. The more grown up setting makes sense for their latest record The Wilderness, and, truth be told, their overall sound. A majestic setting like the Recital Centre should be a perfect backdrop to the band's intricate, starry soundscapes and light shows, that build slowly in intensity to a pulse-quickening effect.

A warning: do not wear thick eyeliner to an Explosions in the Sky show. When we last saw them at Coachella, then Splendour in the Grass, both in 2012, we spent much of their sets openly weeping.

Tickets on sale from Friday October 21.
