Time Out says

After half a decade, the indie rockers are returning to Melbourne with special guests Spoon and Indigo Sparke

What better way to see off the year than with neo-psychedelic indie rockers The War on Drugs?

After five long years, the band is set to make their long-awaited return to Australia and New Zealand to promote their latest album, I Don’t Live Here Anymore. Along with special guests Spoon and Indigo Sparke, the band will play a one-off show at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on December 7.

Formed in 2005 by frontman Adam Granduciel and Kurt Vile (who quit in 2008 to pursue a solo career), the seven-piece band from Philadelphia gained significant acclaim with their breakthrough album Lost in the Dream, which featured hits like 'Red Eyes', 'An Ocean Between the Waves', 'Under the Pressure' and 'Lost in the Dream'.

The band has since grown into one of this century’s greatest rock and roll synthesists, praised for their multi-layered instrumentation, introspective lyrics and soul-stirring guitar solos. Following the release of I Don’t Live Here Anymore, the band was hailed by Stereogum as “one of the greatest American bands of their generation”, with the record landing a spot on numerous best albums of the year lists.

If you’re after an “enveloping and uplifting” music experience, catch The War on Drugs on December 7 at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. Tickets for all shows go on sale on May 26 via the Live Nation website.
