The world-premiere exhibition celebrating the beloved animated TV show will open in Melbourne next year – here's what we know so far

Good news for anyone who’s ever shouted “For real life!” at their TV: Bluey is getting its very first museum exhibition – and it’s premiering right here in Melbourne.
ACMI, Australia’s national museum of screen culture, has announced an exclusive world-first exhibition dedicated to the making of the beloved animated TV series, opening in mid-2027. Created in partnership with BBC Studios and Brisbane-based Bluey producers Ludo Studio, the exhibition will pull back the curtain on the artistry and storytelling behind the global phenomenon.
Visitors can expect a behind-the-scenes deep dive into how the Emmy- and BAFTA-winning show is made – from animation and character design to the storytelling magic that turned a cheeky blue heeler pup into one of the most beloved kids’ characters on the planet.
Importantly, this won’t just be a Melbourne debut. ACMI holds the exclusive global rights to the exhibition, meaning the museum will develop and premiere the show before it eventually tours internationally.
ACMI director and CEO Seb Chan said landing the partnership is a big moment for the institution – and for Melbourne’s reputation as a cultural heavyweight.
“Securing a partnership of this calibre is testament to ACMI’s standing as the home of screen culture in Australia,” he said. “We can’t wait to welcome Bluey to our museum and celebrate this Australian screen phenomenon before taking it to the world.”
The exhibition marks Bluey’s first museum appearance, bringing the series off the screen and into the physical world with immersive elements designed to show fans exactly how the show comes together.
If you somehow haven’t met her yet (highly unlikely if you’ve been within a ten-metre radius of a child in the past five years), Bluey follows the adventures of an endlessly energetic blue heeler pup and her family: Mum Chilli, Dad Bandit and little sister Bingo. Since launching in 2018, the show has become a global juggernaut, airing in more than 140 countries. The stats are pretty staggering: in 2024, Bluey was the most-watched series worldwide on Disney+, and it also topped the charts as the most-streamed show in the United States in both 2024 and 2025.
For Melbourne families, it means one very exciting thing: in 2027, you’ll be able to step straight into the world of Bluey – and see how one of Australia’s biggest screen success stories is made.
