2026 is turning out to be a year of musical mayhem in Melbourne – in the best way, of course. The Australian premiere of Anastasia kicked off in our cultural capital last December, and next month sees the award-winning The Book of Mormon arrive in town, with the national debut of Waitress following in May. And there’s even more musical magic in store – Broadway smash-hit A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical is making its Aussie debut at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre this August. It’s not too early to start warming up those vocal cords, because this energetic theatrical memoir is full of classic tunes (think ‘Sweet Caroline’) that are sure to have audiences singing along.
Told through a series of fictional therapy sessions, A Beautiful Noise shares the untold true story of award-winning American rocker Neil Diamond. Created in collaboration with the man himself, the uplifting memoir traces his journey from a humble Brooklyn kid to a showstopping performer who’s sold more than 140 million albums worldwide. Along the way, he’s also been inducted into the Songwriters and Rock and Roll Halls of Fame, won a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and sold out concerts all across the globe.
A Beautiful Noise extracts as many pop gems as it can from the Diamond mine. From hits like ‘Sweet Caroline’, ‘Forever in Blue Jeans’ and ‘Cracklin’ Rosie’, you’ll have a hard time not singing along.
American Broadway star Will Swenson will reprise his acclaimed role from the Broadway production, dazzling Aussie audiences for the first time. The rest of the cast is yet to be announced, but they’ve got some seriously big shoes to fill.
The Australian premiere of A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical opens at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre on August 5, with the season running until September 27. Tickets are on sale now, starting from just $69.
