What if hot cross buns were, er, cold? Frozen, actually? Piccolina Gelateria is turning the toasty Easter treat into a specialty gelato flavour for Easter. Piccolina is making its own hot cross buns in house every day, with that classic combination of nutmeg, cinnamon, sultanas and lemon zest. Then the gelato makers turn the buns into croutons, which are churned through the gelato. The flavour is available until the end of the Easter long weekend.

That's not the only specialty Easter treat available at the gelateria. A limited-edition Easter gelato cake is also available.

Try this on for size: a dark chocolate golden egg filled with dulce de leche, sitting on salted caramel gelato layered with chocolate butter biscuits and coated in milk chocolate velvet spray. We reckon even the Easter bunny itself couldn't do better. It's $28 and serves two to four people, but if you have it all to yourself, well Easter is all about miracles.

Can't get enough of the cold stuff? Here are the best ice cream and gelato shops in Melbourne.
