Craft distillery Bass & Flinders is releasing a special-edition 2018 gin infused with truffles. Yes, those black, brain-looking funguses that are found by dogs and pigs under particular kinds of trees. And the distillery is organising a truffle hunt on Saturday, July 14 to release it.

Gin and truffles, you say? Seems an odd combo? Holly Klintworth, Bass & Flinders' head distiller, says the flavours really work together. “The vapour infusion of our grape spirit with local Black Perigord Truffles and botanicals produces a gin that truly celebrates the earthly delight of the truffle. It is a standalone gin wonderful neat, or alongside creamy sauces and strong cheeses," she says.

How can you get your paws on some? Well, you'll have to work for your tipple. On Saturday, July 14 you can participate in a truffle hunt at Red Hill Truffle Farm and then taste the 2018 Truffle Gin release. The hunt will kick off at 2pm, and there will be tastings, cocktails and cheese platters afterwards. Tickets for the hunt are $130 per person.

If you can't make it down to Red Hill, you can buy the 2018 Truffle Gin online from July 13.

What's it like going on a truffle hunt? We teamed up with two Labrador-border collies to find out. After a different kind of winter warmer? These are the hot cocktails you need to drink this winter
