Master Roll is a reliable staple for bánh mì and Vietnamese street food. In addition to the South Yarra store you'll also find shops on Bourke Street and in Lonsdale. The novel offering of delivery (and catering) means you can get your pork roll fix brought to your door.
The ingredients are high quality. Master Roll's different cold cuts, including head cheese, are firm and aromatic and the grilled chicken bread roll features smoky chargrilled cubes of chicken. Their pickled matchstick carrots and thick-cut daikon are some of the most vinegary and refreshing you'll try. Unfortunately, the rolls are let down by overly stiff and heavy bread with a disproportionate bread-to-fillings ratio.
The addition of a house-made mayo, more like the Western version of mayo than the Vietnamese one, gives the pickled vegetables and fresh cucumber an almost coleslaw-like coating and the pâté is generous.
