Alia Shawkat is probably best known as Maeby in Arrested Development or for playing Dory in the recent (and excellent) satirical dark comedy series Search Party. In recent years, she’s racked up several writing and producing credits as well as guest spots on shows like Drunk History, Portlandia and Broad City. Not only that but Shawkat is also an accomplished painter and also dabbles in jazz singing.
It’s clear Shawkat has a lot to say, so Melbourne audiences are in for a treat this August when she heads to town during the Melbourne International Film Festival. Following a screening of the Ethan Hawke-directed biopic Blaze, the multi-talented Shawkat will appear in conversation with Lorin Clarke, talking about her life, career and more.
