Time Out says

No Euro Christmas this year? You can still enjoy all things French and festive at this enchanting market

Let’s be honest, Aussie Christmas is great, but it doesn’t have quite the same old-world charm as one spent on the twinkling streets of Paris. If you’re dreaming of jumping on a plane to wander the Christmas markets of Europe, we’ve got a nice surprise for you. Thanks to the Alliance Française de Melbourne, you needn’t look any further than 50 Lonsdale Street (Spring Place) to get your festive French fix.

On the weekend of December 1-3, the Alliance Française Xmas Market will transform two laneways snaking between sky-high CBD office towers into a Francophile’s holiday paradise. Spring Place will be packed with exciting stalls featuring delicious French food and fabulous French-themed holiday gifts.

Alliance Française de Melbourne has organised a packed line-up of entertainment, with tunes from the So Frenchy So Chic crew, carols from Opera Scholars Australia, live music from Mon Quartier, kids face painting and free French classes (just book online). French sexy Santa will also be in attendance!

On the culinary front, you can feast on raclette, saucisson (dry cured sausage), savoury galettes, French-Caribbean curries and, of course, French cheese. Top it off with a crêpe or French pastries for dessert and a glass of French wine or a bespoke Gin cocktail from Little Lon Distilling Co to finish. Rest assured, there’ll be gluten-free and vegan options available for those with dietary requirements.

Once you’re full, browse the stalls for a festive gift. Check out French-style jewellery, fashion, homewares, decorations, candles, art and photography. There’ll also be gourmet goods and chocolates for the foodies in your life.

Don’t forget to grab your ticket for the French’tastic Christmas raffle raising funds for Alliance Française de Melbourne, a not-for-profit organisation. There are fabulous prizes to win, including a trip for two to New Caledonia. Ooh là là!
