Time Out says

The hit podcast is putting on an interactive virtual event for true crime fans

Note: this event scheduled for August 8 has been postponed, new date TBA. Check here for updates.

Exploring true crime beyond the headlines, Australian True Crime is a stand-out show that cuts through the noise in an overcrowded genre in the podcast scene. With stalwart Aussie media personality Meshel Laurie and journalist and writer Emily Webb at the helm, the show takes a feminist bent as it digs into infamous crimes and cases and asks what creates a killer, how people become victims, and what happens next.

The sense of morbid fascination is what draws many people, mostly women, to the true crime genre. Taking a feminist approach to its investigations, Australian True Crime has become an unlikely source of empowerment and education, culminating a monthly listenership of 1.4 million. A friend of mine explained listening to this podcast as hopping into a car with two women and taking a drive through a very dark forest with very dark stories: you’re very glad you're in the car with these people for this journey, they make you feel safe.

In a move made to suit the physically distanced era, the Australian True Crime team are hosting a live virtual event with special guests that you can join from the comfort of your home with a livestream starting on Saturday, August 8, from 7.30pm (log on at 7pm for true crime trivia).

In Australian True Crime Live the wonderfully relatable Meshel and the knowledgeable Emily will be joined by regular guest and Walkley award-winning crime writer Andrew Rule, who will talk about his experiences working with the infamous Mark 'Chopper' Read; and former policewoman and licensed private investigator Julia Robson, who will take viewers behind the scenes of her hit podcast Chasing Charlie, which follows her hunt for an elusive conman who has scammed unsuspecting victims around the world and left a trail of destruction in his wake.

Levelling things up from the usual podcast format, this special event will be broadcasting video live from a studio, and the audience can join in a Q&A session with the guests. You can purchase tickets that will give you access to the live event and replay, allowing you to watch it later, from $19.95-$24.95 (plus booking fee) over here.

After some lighter entertainment? Pride of our Footscray is taking its quarantine queens online for a weekly bingo night.
