When it comes to sandwiches, the humble cheese toastie is one of the best. Easy to make, quick to cook and oh-so comforting, the cheese toastie is well worth celebrating. Which is exactly what Welcome to Thornbury is doing this weekend.
The northside food truck park is hosting a cheese toastie festival this Saturday and Sunday. It has put together a line-up of food trucks that will be churning out classic toasties, vegetarian toasties, Turkish toasties (that is, gozleme) and even sweet toasties for dessert.
On the cheesy line-up are Frencheese, Smooth Toastie, Mr Burger, Belles Hot Chicken, Dr Sous, the Gozleme Station, Those Guys Food, Jamm’d and Tiramisu’ Lift Me Up. Not a fan of gluten or animal products? The Smooth Toastie team offer gluten-free bread as well as a vegan toastie option (there is also a bolognese-laden toasties too if that’s more your jam).
The highlight of the weekend will be the cheese toastie degustation, where for $30 you get four house-made cheese toasties paired with either four Goose Island beers or four premium wines. There are two degustation sittings (12.30pm and 2.30pm on Saturday), and bookings can be made online.
General entry to the Cheese Toastie Festival is free, and children and dogs are welcome.
