Five reasons this inner-west neighbourhood will soon be the ultimate community hub

Bradmill is a new development just a stone’s throw from Yarraville village

One thing that is notably absent from modern city life is the idea of neighbourhoods. Of course, neighbourhoods still exist – but it’s nothing like the Ramsay Street we see on Neighbours. Our grandparents often talk about ‘the good old days’ when you could run around with no shoes on, climb trees, stay out until nightfall and nobody batted an eyelid.

Well, the neighbourhood as our grandparents knew it, is not a lost concept. In fact, a brand new community hub in Melbourne’s inner-west is currently being developed by Frasers Property, and it’s located on the outskirts of trendy suburb Yarraville.

Bradmill is a forgotten textile factory that is now being transformed into a residential community encompassing townhomes, apartments, a shopping centre, co-working space, cinema, gym and a refurbished heritage site. Bradmill Yarraville is set to become the ultimate culture hub, and here’s five reasons why.

The now abandoned factory was once home to a thriving textiles industry, with ties to global denim brands. However, in 2007, Davies Coop Company ceased operations in the area – leaving it open to street artists and urban explorers.

The new community precinct will maintain the  iconic structures, repurposing the proofing building as a wellness sanctuary and the boiler house as a multi-purpose entertainment and function space.

The soon-to-be thriving neighbourhood is located in one of Melbourne’s coolest suburbs

Named the fifth coolest suburb in the world in 2020 , Yarraville ticks all your ‘burb boxes. It’s the perfect blend of residential and recreational, with its own bookshop and cinema, and restaurants and bars to suit every taste. It’s also only five train stops from the city, which is prime real estate if you ask us. Check out our local’s guide to Yarraville if you still need convincing.

Bradmill’s townhomes are a great option for those looking to live more sustainably. The newly built homes provide solar panels, water saving fixtures and double glazed windows. These homes are run entirely on electricity, totally eliminating the need for fossil fuels. Each home also boasts two or three stories, with 3 or 4 bedrooms -- so there’s plenty of room for a young professional couple or a family.

Mingle with your new neighbours at the family friendly block party in March

On Saturday, March 16, Bradmill Yarraville is hosting a free block party from 12pm to 3pm. As part of the event, there will be live DJs, face painting, entertainers, food trucks and a denim embroidery station – paying homage to its denim factory roots. The party will be a great opportunity to meet locals and truly get into that neighbourly spirit.
