Make sure you save room in your Midsumma calendar for Horizon: a brand new event that brings bold new art to Testing Grounds in Southbank for one big night.
Curators Daniel Santangeli (Midsumma's program manager) and digital artist Alison Bennett aim to represent the "often-volatile space that queer arts occupy". As such, they have invited queer artists to showcase work that attempts to answer the question: what does a queer future look like?
For Santangeli, part of this future should be about breaking down the homogenisation of queer culture and celebrating diversity. "Midsumma Horizon makes a loud statement that the future of queer arts is diverse in race, age, sexuality and lived experience," says Santangeli.
Horizons will feature artists working in live performance, projection, visual art, spoken word and music; many of them queer and trans people of colour. Expect to encounter dance by Tony Yap, drag by Dani Boi, music by Miranda Fitzgerald, comedy by Po Po Mo Co and lots more.
Best of all, the event is completely free!
