To celebrate 200 seminal works from New York’s Museum of Modern Art arriving at the NGV for its winter masterpieces exhibition, Sofitel Melbourne on Collins will be inviting guests to experience a New York-themed lunch.
Sofitel’s No. 35 restaurant, which boasts an impressive panoramic view over Melbourne, is offering a 'Modern New Yorker Lunch' series, which puts modern twists on some of New York’s most famous dishes.
Running from June 9 until October 7 on Thursdays and Fridays only, the Modern New Yorker Lunch will serve impeccably designed dishes that wouldn’t be out of place in a gallery themselves. Entrées include a mini bagel crisp with lox, cream cheese and chives or a Waldorf salad with spiced candied walnuts, truffle, yoghurt, celeriac, apple and red grapes. For mains you can choose between a modern Reuben with pastrami, swiss cheese, sauerkraut and pickles and served with American fries, or a bowl of clam chowder, which mixes clams, bacon, potato, baked croutons and tomatoes.
Save room for dessert too – Sofitel is serving a New York-style cheesecake with raspberry coulis or an epic Marilyn Monroe sundae with chocolate, strawberry and vanilla ice cream served with whipped milk jam.
Lunch also includes a glass of wine and a choice of tea or coffee, as well as a gravity-defying amuse-bouche (it’s inspired by the game Space Invaders) and emoji macarons as petit fours. This one-of-a-kind lunch will set you back $55 per person for two courses or $65 per person for three courses.
