Light, sound, texture – interactive art often engages three of the five senses, but what about taste and smell? This year, Melbourne's most experimental celebration of independent artists will be home to a host of multisensory performances that incorporate food and drink, too.

From drag shows served with a side of dumplings to live art paired with desserts – these are the best food events to take part in at Melbourne Fringe Festival 2022.

Want more Fringe? These are the 10 best free events to see this year.

Ever wanted to go fishing in the middle of Collingwood? Well, now's your chance. This part-feast-part-performance by Long Prawn will grant ticketholders an hour of yabby fishing at Collingwood Yards.

Grab a seat with a friend and try your luck in the fishing pond. When you're done, hand your catch over to a chef who will ethically prepare and cook the yabbies for you, all as part of a live peformance.

This metaphysical-themed performance by Scratch Arts explores the idea of our potential futures – from the fantastical to the ardous. Watch these futures play out in front of you, while enjoying an indulgent dessert menu and cocktail lineup. What better way to drift through time and space?

Grab a table with friends, order an otherworldly cocktail, and settle yourself into one of the several show nights during Melbourne Fringe, between October 13 and 23.

A fabulous queer Asian cast brings Old Shanghai cabaret to life in Dynasty: Drag & Dumplings. Created and hosted by musician and cabaret artist, Dyan Tai, it's set to be a highlight of the festival for those seeking to combine dinner and a show.

Tickets to this hilarious, fun and ridiculously camp drag and dine show include freshly prepared and handmade vegan yum cha delicacies, served throughout the performance.

This immersive theatre event is set and performed in Fitzroy's famed Gertrude Hotel, with a focus on stories about Australian female publicans. A cast of eight actors plays multiple roles as the story leaps through different decades – from 1950 to 1999.

Grab a drink, and listen to their stories from Tuesday through Thursday over two weeks of Melbourne Fringe, nightly at 7pm.

This quirky piece of carb-centric theatre art is set in a carpark, where two performers compete in a series of bread-related tasks to be crowned the official Homer Simpson.

Experience an interactive, one-of-a-kind performance that unpacks the Simpsons from the POV of an expert and a novice, and explores themes of capitalism and culture, all distilled down within the yellow hue of the famous cartoon family.
