Melbourne's biggest fashion festival returns for its 21st year
Australian fashion takes centre stage at the 2017 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF). Returning to the Royal Exhibition Building and Melbourne Museum precinct, the two-week festival will feature free and ticketed events including runway shows to workshops and shopping events. Be sure to hit up flights and holidays to Melbourne with Virgin Australia.
Highlights include the Gala Runway (March 14), which will showcase the work of Australian and international designers. Meanwhile, the Premium Runways (March 15-19) will present the work of solely Australian designers, from those who have found international acclaim such as Alice McCall, Dion Lee, and Scanlan Theodore, to those who are making their VAMFF debut like KITX (by Kit Willow), Albus Lumen and Acler.
Following on from last year's solo showcase from Dion Lee, Camilla and Marc takes on the Virgin Australia Grand Showcase (March 16) this year to highlight the label's past and current collections. Keep an eye on the hottest young talent in fashion at the National Graduate Showcase (March 19), where student designers handpicked from universities and design institutes will get to present their debut collections.
Aside from the runway shows, other events such as shopping events, workshops and exhibitions will be happening around Melbourne and in regional Victoria. VAMFF's arts program signposts the fashion industry's contribution to film in the Fashion Film Series, whilst offering valuable tips to the next generation of fashion writer in an industry expert-led workshop (March 12).
