This summer, Prospect Park is celebrating its 150th anniversary, and to commemorate the milestone, the Prospect Park Alliance has called upon the Brooklyn community to play a role in the decorations. The Connective Project, on view July 7 through 17, is a collection of 7,000 pinwheels created from artwork submitted community members, artists and well-known Brooklynites.

The colorful installation will cover the two-and-a-half acre former Rose Garden, which is located in the northeast corner of the park, and bring life into a hidden part of the park that will undergo restoration in the coming years. The open call for artwork asked that all who love the Brooklyn oasis send in drawings, photos, verse and prose that expressed how much the park means to them. The selected works of art will be printed on weather-resistant, compostable paper made from stone dust and all submissions will appear on an online gallery. Just imagine the sight of 7,000 pinwheels blanketing the landscape and all professing their love for Brooklyn’s Backyard!

If your kids are inspired to make an artistic donation of their own? The Prospect Park Alliance will continue to gather artwork to add to the installation so they might just see their creative ode to Prospect Park spinning in the breeze this summer!
